Open Access news from CLA

Some interesting developments on open access from the Canadian Library Association conference:

The CLA Executive has approved a set of recommendations on policy for open access for CLA's own publications. There are some options and final details to be worked out so I can't point to the final policy yet, however, in a nutshell, Feliciter will, in the near future, be freely available after a 1-issue embargo, and CLA authors (whether Feliciter or other CLA publications) will be free to self-archive a copy of their work.

If you are interested, my presentation at the CLA Preconference, Demystifying Open Access Journals: Pure Gold (with co-presenter Jason Charron of NRC Press) is in E-LIS, at: http://eprints.rclis.org/archive/00010054/

I met Melissa Fraser of the IGLOO Library - another example of Canadian library leadership in open access, as they provide OA to their own documents on international governance. A brief blogpost and links are available on OA Librarian, at: http://oalibrarian.blogspot.com/2007/05/igloo-library-open-access-to-documents.html

Thanks to students who have already posted comments. I'll be back from vacation soon, and will catch up and add a comment or two of my own.

Shane:

In other conference-related news, according to a message forwarded to SPARC OA listserv by Peter Suber yesterday (that is, June 12th), the Atlantic Provinces Library Association has apparently passed the following two motions unanimously at their Ordinary General Meeting during the CLA/APLA/NLLA National Conference held in St. John's NL May 23-28, 2007:

Motion 1: It is moved that APLA support open access publishing, and begin with Volume 71 of the APLA bulletin, to be open access.

Motion 2: It is moved that APLA adopt a creative commons copyright statement with the first online issue, to replace the current copyright statement.

I haven't seen this information confirmed elsewhere. But if both motions passed unanimously, this is very good news.

Here's a link to the original message for anyone interested in looking at it:
